Favorite Part of being an ACTFL Member:

As an ACTFL member, one of the best aspects is the access to high-quality professional development and resources that enhance language teaching. The organization provides research-based strategies, networking opportunities, and access to conferences that help educators like me stay updated on best practices. Membership also helps me connect with a community of passionate language educators who share ideas and support each other in improving language instruction.

Favorite Part of Career:

That is a tough question because there have been so many meaningful moments!

One of the most memorable experiences has been seeing students develop confidence in their language skills, especially when they start making connections beyond the classroom. Moments like watching a student deliver a passionate presentation in Spanish, successfully navigate a real-world conversation, or even express excitement about using the language outside of school always stand out.

Another unforgettable experience has been leading students in events like Spanish competitions, where they showcase their skills and immerse themselves in the language. Seeing their hard work and dedication pay off in such a rewarding way is always a highlight.

One thing I Recently Learned:

One of the biggest things I have learned this past year is the importance of adaptability in teaching and personal growth. Whether it is adjusting lessons to better support students diverse learning styles, integrating new technology, or rethinking how to foster meaningful connections in the classroom, flexibility has been key.

I have also deepened my understanding of student-centered learning, making space for more authentic interactions and critical thinking in my Spanish classes. Encouraging students to take ownership of their learning has been incredibly rewarding.

Fun Fact:

I have wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl, setting up a classroom in my home and teaching my dolls. That childhood dream became a lifelong passion, and now, after 27 years in education, I still bring that same enthusiasm to my classroom every day. Teaching is not just my career; it is who I am. Watching my students grow, succeed, and develop a love for learning continues to be the most rewarding part of my journey. Being part of my school community, Canterbury School, has made this journey even more special, as it allows me to teach in an environment that values curiosity, academic excellence, and personal growth. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work in a school that aligns with my passion for fostering lifelong learners.
